mothers of all ages and their children who are at risk of losing family
unity due to abuse and neglect. All families are referred from a
county children and youth system. Click here to download a flyer.
PathWays Center for Families (formerly the Women's
Alternative Center) is a supervised group residence
located in Delaware County that serves up to 16 adult women and
their children. The Center provides housing for women with as many as
six children, for an average stay of 18-24 months. The program
addresses issues around homelessness, family violence, parenting
and substance abuse, in order to enhance the bond between mother
and child, improve children's emotional development, prevent
the recurrence of high-risk behaviors, and to promote family economic self-sufficency. To learn more about the
Center, please contact Director Ruth Hill at 610/459-9177. Click here to download a flyer.

educational activities include one-on-one counseling with the mothers concerning the following
topics: budgeting and banking, organization and housekeeping
skills, clothes shopping, job search skills, job retention
skills, hygiene for mothers and their children, handling
stress, parent and child activities, general cleaning skills, health issues, laundry
care, meal planning, meal preparation, basic sewing and basis home repairs,

- Adult Education is offered to help the mothers gain basic educational skills,
prepare for the GED tests, to increase skills for high school graduates, to learn
basic computer skills and to assist in driver's education. The classes are
offered five days a week with a total of 23 hours of classroom instruction,
which includes 15 hours of ABE/GED instruction; 5 hours of life skills and job
readiness; and 3 hours of nutrition. Referral and assistance are also provided to help the teens in improving their
employability skills, apply for and attend college and obtain part-time jobs. Parenting Classes are offered three
times per year. PathWaysPA subcontracts to Family Support Services to provide parenting classes to SIL and
community teens. During the Parent-Child Interaction Program hours, parents and their children interact
together in a learning environment and parents meet with the parent educator to share parenting
experiences with the facilitators and other participants. PathWaysPA offers parenting classes at the
Achieving Independence Center. For information contact Patty Jones at 215/387-1470.
