2010 Trailblazer Honorees
This year, to help commemorate 32 years of service, PathWays PA will host the PathWays to the Stars 32nd Anniversary Celebration Sports-tacular at the Radisson Hotel in King of Prussia on November 9, from 6:30-9PM. Attendees at this year’s event will be able to enjoy great food, drink and a silent auction with a wide variety of items from travel getaways to autographed sports memorabilia.

As part of the festivities, PathWays PA will also present five individuals with a 2010 Trailblazer Award. This award is intended to recognize those who have gone above and beyond in their lives and their work to make a positive impact on the communities in which we work and live.

The 2010 Trailblazer Honorees are:

Pamela Godwin

Smiley face Pamela is a corporate director, an experienced senior executive and a consultant with more than 25 years experience in corporate leadership and leadership consulting. In 2001, she founded Change Partners, Inc., which offers a variety of services including customized executive coaching programs, strategic leadership assessment, succession planning, team alignment and cultural assessment. Pamela’s work with enterprise-wide strategic change was highlighted in the book, Reengineering the Corporation, by Michael Hammer and James Champy. She is frequently invited to speak and has addressed audiences in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. on business process reengineering, the human aspects of change and leadership in a team-based environment. Pamela is a member of the board of directors of Unum Group and is a member of the Advisory Board of CHBriggs, Inc. An active participant in civic and business organizations, Pamela is a member of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business Executive Education Advisory Board, Committee of 200, the Philadelphia Foundation’s Board of Managers and the Philadelphia Forum of Executive Women. In the past, Pamela has been involved with the Penn State Great Valley Advisory Board, and she has also been a board member for the following initiatives: the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, Novant Health Triad Region, Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Insurance Society of Philadelphia, the JFK Vocational Technical School and Wheels, Inc. She is also past President of the Philadelphia chapter of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters. Pamela was named to the Pennsylvania Honor Roll of Women by the Pennsylvania Commission for Women in 1996 and was named one of Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business in May 2007. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Pamela lives in Havertown, PA.

Mellanie Lassiter

Smiley face Mellanie has a distinguished career and progressive track record with over 15 years experience in philanthropic and nonprofit positions in the Greater Philadelphia area. As Corporate Contributions Manager in the Office of Corporate Relations for PECO Energy Company in Philadelphia, she manages a multi-million dollar portfolio of corporate contributions and corporate citizenship programs. Currently, Mellanie serves on the boards of the Urban League of Philadelphia, Art Sanctuary and Delaware Valley Grantmakers. She also serves on the Steering Committee of ArtsRising, and is a member of the Philadelphia Chapter, Links, Inc. Mellanie holds an undergraduate degree from Spelman College and a Masters Degree in Training and Organization Development from St. Joseph’s University. Recognized for exceptional community service and civic engagement, Mellanie was identified as one of “10 People Under 40 to Watch in 2009” by Tribune Magazine. She also received the 2009 Corporate Community Service Award from the Philadelphia Chapter, Frontiers International. Most recently, Mellanie was honored at the 2010 Celebration of Moxie Women as a Next Generation of Leadership: Rising Stars honoree and by the American Women’s Heritage Society as a “Mover and Shaker.”  In her free time, Mellanie enjoys choir directing, singing, reading and considers herself an amateur food critic of fine dining experiences.

Linda J. McAleer

Smiley face Linda founded The Melior Group to bring the disciplines of marketing research to service industries. Past Vice President and Director of the American Marketing Association, she is a preeminent expert in survey research, image and communications research, new service development, product planning and advertising effectiveness for service providers. She has published in Marketing News and Bank Marketing and is a frequent speaker on client expectations and customer service issues. Currently, Linda serves in leadership roles on the boards of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (both nationally and regionally), JEVS Human Services and The Design Center of Philadelphia University. She is a veteran of three (and counting) 50-mile Challenge Walks for NMSS, and is credited with bringing Women Against Multiple Sclerosis to Philadelphia. Linda has been honored with numerous awards, including the WOMEN’S WAY Leadership Award, the Woman of Spirit Award by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Greater Delaware Valley Chapter, one of Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business by Governor Rendell and the Woman of Distinction Award by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Linda holds B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Temple University.

 Joan Meyers Brown

Smiley face Joan is the founder of The Philadelphia Dance Company and The Philadelphia School of Dance Arts. She serves as honorary chairperson for the International Association of Blacks in Dance, an organization she established along with the International Conference of Black Dance Companies. She is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of the Arts, which bestowed upon her an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts, and is a member of the dance faculty at Howard University in Washington, DC. Most recently, Joan was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters by Ursinus College. Listed in Who's Who in America and described as an "innovator and communicator," Joan has made significant contributions to the national and international arts communities. Regionally and nationally, she has served a broad range of organizations, including NEFA's National Dance Project, the United States Information Agency, Arts America, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Arts Councils of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Nevada, and Ohio and the National Forum for Female Executives. Locally, she has been a part of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, the Minority Arts Resource Council, the Philadelphia Mayor's Cultural Advisory Council, the Philadelphia Dance Alliance, The Women's Heritage Society, Dance/USA and the Coalition of African American Cultural Organizations. Joan was honored as one of the "Dance Women; Living Legends" and also honored by Kennedy Center for African American Choreography. She has served as a consultant to many national cultural organizations, and was appointed to the choreographer's panel of the Rockefeller Foundation Arts & Humanities Program; and served as vice president (and co-founder) to the Coalition of Afro-American Cultural Organizations. Joan is the proud mother of daughters Marlisa and Dannielle and grandmother of six.

The Rt. Rev. Rodney R. Michel

Smiley face The Rt. Rev. Rodney R. Michel currently serves as the Assisting Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, where he began his ministry in April 2009.  Bishop Michel is the retired seventh Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island and spent the last twenty years of his active ministry in that Diocese.  He retired from active ministry in February, 2007, when he and his late wife, Marie, moved to Ephrata, Pennsylvania. Bishop Michel began his ordained ministry in the Diocese of Nebraska where he served for nearly fourteen years after his graduation from Seabury Western Theological Seminary.  He served the Church in the Diocese of North Dakota for five years prior to his ministry in the Diocese of Long Island, as Canon Pastor of the Cathedral of the Incarnation, and Rector of St. Peter’s Church, Bay Shore.  Bishop Michel served the larger Church as a member and Chair of the HIV/AIDS Commission for some years.  He serves as the Bishop Visitor to the Brotherhood of Saint Gregory, a Christian Community in the Episcopal Church. Bishop Michel enjoys iconography, needlepoint and travel and looks forward to all of those delights when he retires from active ministry once again in 2012.
